The mission of the Madawaska Recreation Department is to improve the quality of life for all residents of Madawaska by providing a wide variety of leisure and cultural activities, special events, facilities and services that encourage health, fitness, relaxation, enjoyment, cultural enrichment and learning as well as providing opportunities for community involvement.
The Madawaska Recreation Department has been providing safe and fun activities for all ages since 1967. The Recreation Department was run out of various small huts where games and activities were signed out daily until 1977 when the Multi-Purpose Center, where the Recreation Department is now located, was built. With 14 part-time employees hired for the summer, they provide over 100 activities for children and adults of all ages. They also offer kayak, table, chair, or tent rentals for events.
The Recreation Department is partially funded by the Town, but is largely a fee-based program. The Recreation Department has received various grants including the Child Nutrition Summer Program Grant which provides 2 free hot meals a day to children who participate in the Summer Recreation Programs. This Department also receives sponsors from local businesses to fund various Recreation Programs.
The Rec Department works tirelessly to provide a variety of events and activities for all ages, however participation is required to keep these activities running. Please don’t let such a great program die! For more information about the programs and activities the Madawaska Recreation Department provides, contact the Recreation Department at (207) 728-3605.
