Business Registration & Licensing

All Businesses in the municipality of Madawaska must register with the Town Clerk prior to opening their business.
Application cost $10.00 (this is a one-time application & fee)*
*if your business address, location or ownership changes, you will need to re-register your business with the town.

Some businesses operating within the Town of Madawaska may require licensing by virtue of a Town Ordinance and/or State Statute.

The Town Clerk is responsible for receiving, processing, and issuing applications, licenses, and license renewals.

All license fees are intended to cover the administrative costs associated with processing the application and are non-refundable.

Business Types that require Town and/or State Licensing

Innkeeper/Tavernkeeper 
(30-A, M.R.S.A. section 3811) 
In May of each year, all Innkeeper/Tavernkeepers receive a phone call or a letter from the Town Clerk's Office stating their license is due. A certificate is issued when the fee of $5.00 is paid. It is the owner's responsibility to ensure annual licensing with the town.

Liquor License
28-A, M.R.S.A. section 653 Hearing
28-A, M.R.S.A. section 1051 Licenses 
Any establishment selling liquor for on-premises consumption must have a State Liquor License.
A Liquor License application can be obtained through State of Maine Liquor Licensing & Inspection Unit in Augusta or by Phone: (207) 624-7220
Once the application is filled out, please bring it to the Town Clerk for processing.
The application will be advertised in the local newspaper and then approved by the Board of Selectmen. 

Special Entertainment
Application is available from the Town Clerk. A fee of $10.00 is charged for the Special Entertainment Permit, with an additional fee for advertising. The license is valid for one (1) year only. Renewals must be done before expiration date.  

Beano/ Bingo / Game of Chance / Pinball Machine 
An application is available from the Town Clerk.
Individuals are required to have the Select Board sign the application. There is no fee for this service.
