The Madawaska Beautification Committee is a committee made up of hardworking individuals who volunteer their time and whose mission is to highlight the Town of Madawaska in the best viable way, to encourage growth and attract families and businesses in our community. The Beautification Committee relies heavily upon sales and donations to enhance the main street in the downtown area. These fundraisers allow and permit the committee to purchase items such as the Billboards and Granite Benches, as well as help many projects, such as, the Downtown Flower Street project, Fall Festival, Christmas tree Lighting and more.
The projects that were completed last year, 2023, were the Downtown Main Street Flower project which is one of the main fundraisers by selling over 120 beautiful hanging baskets and planters placed throughout the downtown area on Main Street.
Other fundraisers have included several Bake Sales throughout the year and new in year 2023, the committee reached out to businesses to have new granite benches be placed in our downtown pocket parks. Businesses donated enough money to have five granite benches to help fill our parks and make them a place where the community can sit and enjoy the parks.
The committee also organizes a Fall Festival in September at the Farmers Market on Main Street in the pocket parks throughout main street. The goal is to have the community walk through downtown and visit businesses along the way. During the local Acadian Festival, one of our committee members organized a Whimsical chair auction to raise money for the Beautification committee. The artisan painted old chairs to make them look like new again.
Over 30 years have passed since the town purchased new light decorations for the downtown polls and this year the committee requested some assistance from the town of Madawaska to help with new snowflake lights to be placed during the Christmas and winter seasons.
In conjunction with the St. John Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Beautification Committee assists with the Tree lighting and Christmas gathering at the Farmers Market in Madawaska.
Overall, this committee has been dedicated to improving and beautifying the town and they are always looking for volunteers and funding for the future.
