Welcome to Madawaska Ambulance Services
Madawaska Emergency Medical Services
Aside from responding to emergency calls in Madawaska and providing mutual aid for neighboring towns, the ambulance staff is responsible for maintaining the Safety Complex Building and staying current with their EMT and paramedic licenses that expire every 3 years, as well as Medical Transportations outside the service area.
Department Information
The Madawaska Ambulance Department is made up of 4 Paramedics, 2 Advanced EMTs, 5 EMTs and 7 Drivers.
History
The Madawaska Ambulance Department began in the 1960’s and was run by the Town’s Funeral Home. Their hearse doubled as an ambulance with a simple red light placed on top for responding to emergency calls. In 1971 High View Manor took over the ambulance services and was staffed by volunteers only. In 1978 it was decided that the ambulance services should be run by the Town and staffed with full-time employees. At this time the Town sent their ambulance staff to Emergency Medical Technician School which eventually led to all employees having a paramedic or EMT license.
