ABOUT US The General Assistance Program assist residents of Madawaska with basic necessities when the need is immediate, and the individual is unable and to provide the basic necessity essential to maintain themselves or their family. This is a program of last resort. Basic needs include: Food, Utilities, Heating Fuel, Rent/Mortgage, Personal/Household supplies. The General Assistance Program continues to be a safety net for the neediest. That State reimburses municipalities 70% of the program expenditures. The Town of Madawaska administers a General Assistance Program pursuant to Title 22 MRSA § 4305. The municipal officers have adopted an Ordinance establishing that program. Emergency Fuel Assistance - If you are very low on fuel, and can't afford to fill your tank, you may qualify for an emergency delivery. Emergency funds are available at non-profits, churches, towns and other organizations. Call 2-1-1 or contact the Aroostook County Action Program for more information.
